PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the picture quality of a television receiver by eliminating video breakdowns at screen ends due to frame rate conversion. SOLUTION: A video display area of resolution equal to the resolution of the display unit is extracted as a display area excluding areas where video breakdowns are caused from a frame-interpolated video signal generated by performing frame rate conversion and frame interpolation after the resolution of an input video signal is converted to resolution higher than the resolution of a display unit, or a resolution-converted video signal generated by converting the resolution to resolution higher than the resolution of the display unit through resolution conversion after frame rate conversion, thereby displaying video of the extracted video display area on the display unit.
