<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that calculates a parameter for changing a reverse characteristic filter by the use of a test signal including frequencies from a low to high, and controls a rotating system by the use of the reverse characteristic filter changed. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a rotation body 1 for transferring an image, a drive means 2 for rotating the rotation body 1, and a control means 3 for controlling the speed of the rotation body 1 by applying a control signal to the drive means 2. The image forming apparatus comprises: a test signal generating means 5 that generates a test signal and adds the test signal to the control signal; a rotating speed detecting means 6 that detects the rotation angle velocity of the rotation body 1; and a transfer function calculating means 4 that finds the latest transfer function of the rotating system 8, based on the rotation angle velocity from the rotation speed detecting means 6 and the test signal.
