PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a "surrounding monitoring device" for properly setting a region to be actually out of view of a driver as a monitored area. SOLUTION: The position of a head 110 of a driver and the position of a head 120 of an occupant at a passenger's seat are detected by using a sensor. Then, a region up to the right edge of a line 121 on the right side behind the straight line LR connecting the viewpoint position of the driver estimated from the position of the head 110 of the driver and the position of the front edge of the right B pillar of its own vehicle is set as a right blind region (a). When there is no occupant at the passenger's seat, a straight line LL connecting the viewpoint position of the stayed driver and the position of the front edge of the left B pillar of its own vehicle is set (a), and when there is a passenger at the passenger's seat, the straight line LL connecting the view point position of the driver estimated from the position of the head 110 of the driver and the position of the front edge of the head of the occupant at the passenger's seat is set (c).
