PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that the scale of a radar system becomes larger if its detectable area is expanded. SOLUTION: This radar system performs target detection by emitting a transmission signal from an antenna, and receiving/processing a reflected wave from a target. Until a target is detected by a target detector 8, a false alarm rate is degraded, and a minimum detection S/N is degraded by allowing an elevation beam controller 5, a directional beam controller 6, and a range bin controller 9 to perform control to a wide elevation beam, a wide directional beam, and a coarse range bin, and consequently a peak transmission power is suppressed and the scale of the radar system is reduced. When the target is detected by the target detector 8, resolution is improved and the position of the target is identified precisely by allowing the beam controllers 5, 6 and the bin controller 9 to perform control to a narrow elevation beam, a narrow directional beam, and a fine range bin, and performing target detection again.
