PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To form recessed or projecting fine patterns on the side wall of the body part of a metal can without suffering restriction by the accuracy of the receiving die and position adjustment. SOLUTION: In this device for processing a can body, the recessed patterns 33 or the projecting patterns (not shown in figure) are formed on the side wall of the body part 31 by putting the side wall of the body part 31 of the metal can 10 between an engraving die 12 and the receiving die 11 and performing pressurized-contact. In the device, the receiving die 11 is provided with a core 41 composed of a metallic material and an elastic layer 42 with which the outer surface of the core 41 is coated, the thickness of which is 0.5 to <2.0 mm and which is composed of an elastic material.
