PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an operation control device for filtration devices which easily detects a state of filter cloth and controls a filtration operation and a backwashing operation under adequate operating conditions in accordance with the state of the filter cloth, and also provide an operation control method for a filtration device. SOLUTION: A filtration device alternately conducts; a filtration-operating motion which filtrates, with filter cloth, raw water in a filtration room of a filtration tank, which is partitioned into a filtrate room and the filtration room via the filter cloth, collects the water in the filtrate room, and discharges the water; and a backwashing-operating motion which makes a washing liquid introduced into the filtrate room pass through the filter cloth, collects the water in the filtration room and discharges the water. In this case, a plurality of operating modes, which are different in one or more operating conditions selected from filtration time, backwashing time, a filtration rate and a washing rate, are preliminarily set, and the image of the surface of the filter cloth is picked up to detect a color, and the color is compared with preliminarily stored color sample data, which indicate the color of the surface of the filter cloth, to detect a restoration degree of the filter cloth after the backwashing operation is finished. Then, after the filtration-operating motion and the backwashing-operating motion are controlled in accordance with an operating mode initially set from among the plurality of operating modes, the operating mode is reset based on the result of the detection of the restoration degree.
