PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a wet oxidation apparatus in which the running cost can be reduced even while keeping a reaction tower surely at desired temperature. SOLUTION: The wet oxidation apparatus, in which a plurality of reaction towers 11-13 each keeping a high-temperature and high-pressure state are connected to one another in series and slurry is supplied into one of reaction towers to oxidize organic matter in the slurry when the slurry is made to pass through each of reaction towers, is characterized in that a heat exchange pipe 22a is disposed in any one or two or more of reaction towers 11 other than the downmost-stream reaction tower 13 in the plurality of reaction towers connected to one another in series and a discharge fluid from the reaction tower 13 positioned on the downstream side of the reaction tower disposed with the heat exchange pipe 22a is made to pass through the heat exchange pipe 22a to exchange the heat between the discharge fluid and the reaction tower 11 disposed with the heat exchange pipe 22a.
