The device (1) has a spinning rotor (2) with a rotor shaft, and an aerostatic axial bearing (10) defining an air gap (18) between an end (11) of the rotor shaft and a bearing plate (17) of the bearing. The bearing comprises a throttle device (19) through which air is introduced into the air gap, where the throttle device comprises a stamped pressed porous carbon material molding with tablet-shape and homogenous porosity. The throttle device comprises end surfaces oriented generally perpendicular to the direction of air flow. An independent claim is also included for a process for making a throttle device for an aerostatic bearing for an open-end spinning machine including a spinning rotor with a rotor shaft.
