The invention discloses a method for handling traffic congestion in a wireless telecommunications system (100) which comprises a first node such as a Radio Base Station, RBS, and a second node such as a Radio Network Contrailer, RNC, and one or more users, UE. The RNC (110) communicates with the RBS (130), and the RBS communicates with the UEs (150), so that there is a first interface (125) between the RNCs and the RBS's, and a second interface (140) between the RBS's and the UEs. The traffic can comprise one or more flows which can be controlled by the method, the method comprising the use of one flow control function (200) per each of said flows. The flow control function (200) comprises a first sub-function (210) with an algorithm for handling congestion in the first interface (125), and a second sub-function (220) with an algorithm for handling congestion in the second interface (140).
