Disclosed is a dipeptidyl peptidase-IV inhibitor comprising a peptide derived from collagen or gelatin and comprising an amino acid sequence represented by the formula (1): Gly-X-Y-(Gly-Z-W)<SUB>n</SUB> [wherein n represents an integer of 0 to 4; X represents Pro or Leu; and Y, Z and W independently represent an amino acid residue (excluding Gly), a peptide comprising an amino acid sequence having the deletion of an amino acid residue W at the terminus of the above-mentioned amino acid sequence, or a salt thereof. Also disclosed is a therapeutic/prophylactic agent for diabetes, which comprises the dipeptidyl peptidase-IV inhibitor as an active ingredient. Further disclosed is a method for the prevention/treatment of diabetes, which comprises administering an effective amount of the dipeptidyl peptidase-IV inhibitor to a mammal. The dipeptidyl peptidase-IV inhibitor can be used as an ameliorating agent for diabetes or a disease associated with diabetes (e.g., hyperlipemia, gout, hyperuricemia).
