A punch press is provided to eliminate precise cutting and finishing of an upper die for forming depressed portion of a panel to be pressed by forming the depressed portion with electromagnetic force created on the upper part of a lower die. As a result, number of dies need to be machined precisely are minimized and defects caused by dimensional error in both upper and lower dies are reduced. A punch press having a lower die capable of forming depressed portion of a panel with electromagnetic force includes a lower die punch(3) installed to a bolster located at lower part of the machine, blank holders(9) mounted to the bolster external to the lower die punch with cushion pins(7), a common plate(13) installed to an upper slider above the lower die punch, a movable die(15) installed to the common plate to hold edges of a panel(1) to be pressed with blank holders, an electromagnetic die(17) seated on the lower die punch to form the panel with a forming surface(F) on the top surface of the electromagnetic die and to form depressed portion with electromagnetic force which is generated when control signals are emitted by a controller(20), a touch sensor(21) at a side of the blank holder to transmit a signal when the movable die touches blank holders, and a controller which is activated when the touch sensor is triggered and which is emitting control signals to the electromagnetic die when the upper slider completes descending motion.
