PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device capable of performing suitable on/off control over heater lamps even if surface temperature of a heat roll abruptly varies at start and stop of printing. SOLUTION: At start and stop of printing, the heater lamps 2a to 2d are brought under the on/off control by using, in combinations, pieces of temperature information obtained by first temperature detecting means 3a and 3b which are fitted to axial ends of the heat roll and can detect temperature of the heat roll directly in addition to pieces of temperature information obtained by second temperature detection means 4a to 4c of detecting ambient temperature of the heat roll.
