PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide friction pressure welding equipment that can improve phase accuracy of joining both workpieces. SOLUTION: The equipment includes a returnable stopping device 30 that engages at one end with a clutch device 19 and that controls stop phase of a main shaft 3. With a servo motor 15 energized to rotate the main shaft 3, a constant relative rotary movement is imparted to one workpiece 5 and the other workpiece 9. At the same time, the one workpiece 5 and the other workpiece 9 are brought into contact with each other, with a frictional thrust imparted thereto, so that the joining boundary of both workpieces 5, 9 is softened. After that, the number of revolution of the main shaft 3 is reduced until reaching the phase matching number of revolution. When it reaches the phase matching number of revolution, the clutch device 19 is made to engage with the main shaft, and the energization of the servo motor 15 is cut off to stop the rotation of the main shaft 3.
