In regard of the centers of gravity of connected regions obtained from a registered image and an image created by binarizing a search image, if two feature points are in contact with each other in one image and separated from each other in the other, a different feature point is extracted when they are in contact or separated, and the same feature values could not be obtained. A document image feature value generating device extracts a feature point from the inputted input image and generates a feature value from the feature point. The device comprises integrated feature point extracting means and feature value generating means. The integrated feature point extracting means determines connected regions from the input image, computes the centers of gravity of the connected regions and the feature points, integrates at least part of the connected regions, and determines an integrated feature point from the integrated center of gravity of the connected regions. The feature value generating means sets a feature point of interest from the determined feature points and generates the feature value of the integrated connected region from a near feature point arranged near the feature point of interest and the integrated feature point.
