PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for supplying gas, reducing the quantity of gas used for restraining combustion while effectively restraining combustion of molten magnesium to lower the running cost of manufacturing equipment for magnesium die cast products, and contributing to conservation of the global environment. SOLUTION: This apparatus for supplying gas is adapted to supply gas (mixed gas) for preventing combustion, which is formed by mixing cover gas for controlling combustion of molten magnesium held in a melting furnace 11 and dilution gas for diluting the cover gas to the melting furnace 11, and provided with a carbon monoxide densitometer 22 for detecting the combustion of molten metal. The apparatus further includes a gas introduction device 21, which supplies the gas for preventing combustion to the melting furnace 11 on detecting the combustion of molten metal and stops the supply of the combustion preventing gas to the melting furnace 11 on detecting that the combustion of molten metal is not caused.
