PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a machine tool capable of performing an evacuation operation of a tool rest to a tool change position and an approach operation of the other tool rest to a machining starting position at the same time without causing the interference of the tools and capable of reducing a machining time. SOLUTION: This machine tool includes: a main spindle 12; a first tool rest 15 and a second tool rest 17 which are positioned opposite to each other across an axis of the main spindle 12; and a first drive unit and a second drive unit which independently drive the tool rests 15 and 17 along a direction orthogonal to the axis of the main spindle 12. There is also provided a speed value setting device which sets a speed value for each drive unit. The speed value setting device sets the same speed value for both drive units according to a speed value unification command, e.g., in an approach operation of the tool rest 15 or 17 and an evacuation operation of the other tool rest 17 or 15.
