PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent differences between read images of the top and reverse sides of a document from increasing by preventing an off-axial reflecting surface from gravitationally deforming to cause change in imaging performance when an off-axial imaging unit is used for each read means of reading the top and reverse sides of the document. SOLUTION: An image reader has a first read unit 102 which reads the top surface of the document and a second read unit 220 which reads the other surface of the document, and the read units 102 and 220 have off-axial imaging units 113 and 225 comprising a plurality of imaging mirrors where off-axial reflecting surfaces with curvatures in which incident directions and projection directions of a reference axial light beam are different are formed, where the imaging units 113 and 225 are provided having the same vertical directions in the read units 102 and 220 so that the incident side of the light beam to each imaging unit is below the unit about the projection side.
