PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dot printer free from an ink ribbon running failure due to paper powder or the like, a failure of a printing hammer, and a printing failure. SOLUTION: A cleaning ribbon part 12 is provided in a part of an ink ribbon 11. A detection mark 13 for detecting incoming of the cleaning ribbon part 12 is attached to the ink ribbon 11, and the detection mark 13 is also arranged in front of the cleaning ribbon part 12 in an ink ribbon running direction, while the dot printer has a detector 14 for detecting the detection mark 13.
