A metallic probe having its distal end portion of main body constituted of a carbonaceous metal and sharpened; and a method and apparatus for forming of the metallic probe. Metallic probe (9) with sharpened distal end is obtained by inducing a field emission from a distal end of metallic probe main body (2) with nanotube (1) joined thereto to thereby heat the distal end of metallic probe main body (2) by Joule heating until local melting thereof and tearing the nanotube (1) toward counter electrode (4) by Coulomb attraction.
