<p>Hydrogel contact lens comprising a polymer composition obtainable by polymerising a monomer mixture comprising (a) a betaine ester and (b) an alkyl (meth) acrylate. The hydrogel contact lens has a high affinity for water, high water content and a high water retaining capability and provides a contact lens wearer with a high wearing comfort.</p>
