CICADA-RESISTANT OPTICAL DROP CABLE

An optical fiber core (11) is protected from damage or breakage caused by the stick of the ovipositor of Cryptotympana facialis. An optical drop cable (10) wherein an optical fiber core (11) and an anti-tension part (12) are coated with the same material. Since a young tree (T) or the like has an elastic cortex, the oviposition pore is closed and thus no larva is hatched from eggs laid in the cortex. A wear-resistant cable does not suffer from the stick of the ovipositor. Thus, the outer coating (15) for the coating as described above is made of a wear-resistant polyurethane resin having the same elasticity as the cortex of a young tree. When the outer coating (15) made of this resin is employed, the oviposition pore is closed and thus no larva can be hatched from eggs or the stick of the ovipositor becomes impossible owing to the elasticity and wear-resistance of the resin. Thus, Cryptotympana facialis never lays eggs in the outer coating (15). So long as the egg-laying behavior is avoided, there is no risk of the damage or breakage caused by the stick of the ovipositor of Cryptotympana facialis.
