PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of preventing a non-paper-feed area (area near an end part) of a fixing roller from reaching excessively high temperature, without causing increase in the power consumption nor causing scattering of toner, deterioration in image quality, and fixing defects. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a metallic heat radiation member 26, which is partially fitted in an opening at the end of the fixing roller 21, the fitted-in part being in contact with an internal surface of the fixing roller 21; a heat-radiating part moving device 31 which moves the heat radiation member 26 along the axis of rotation of the fixing roller 21; a heat-insulating member 28, covering the internal surface of the end part of the fixing roller 21; and a cooling fan 40 which blows air to a portion of the heat radiation member 26, projecting out from the end of the fixing roller 21. The heat-radiating part moving device 31 moves the heat radiation member 26 for switching between a heat-radiating state, where the heat-radiating member 26 is brought into contact with the internal surface of the fixing roller 21 and a non-heat-radiating state, where the heat radiation member 26 is not brought into contact with the fixing roller 21.
