The apparatus (100) has a receiving unit (110) for receiving an authentication command, where information about a key of a reading device i.e. card reader, is derived from the authentication command. A verifying unit (120) verifies, by the information from the authentication command, whether one of applications of a multi-application controller card i.e. smart card, and the reading device share a key, and selects the application for a communication with the reading device by a key match. A transmitting unit (130) transmits a response of the selected application to the reading device. An independent claim is also included for a method for selecting an application from multiple applications of a device.
