The sports equipment has a board provided with an upper surface and an opposite lower surface. An image display device e.g. display layer (13) is designed to display a two-dimensional image that is observable on viewing at the upper surface, the lower surface and/or a side surface of the board. The image display device exhibits a matrix of LEDs e.g. organic LEDs, that extend along the upper surface and/or lower surface of the board, where the matrix of the LEDs is completely integrated in the board. An independent claim is also included for a method for designing an optical appearance of a sports equipment.
