HEATING OF AUXILIARY COOLANT FOR FUEL CELL EQUIPPED WITH METAL PLATE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell stack with a catalyst surface at an inactive inlet area of a cathode flow channel.

SOLUTION: At the time of starting of the system at low temperature, hydrogen is taken into a cathode inlet header and mixed with air, chemical reaction occurs by catalyst to generate heat and warm cooling liquid at the inactive inlet area. Therefore, the cooling liquid entering an active area of the stack does not come down to a temperature low enough to rapidly cool the chemical reaction.
