PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chamber type coke oven structure maintaining the capacity of a regenerator at a conventional level and preventing bricks of a bellows part from damage while holding a regenerator ceiling level at a center section and an edge portion identically, and to provide a method for constructing the chamber type coke oven. SOLUTION: This chamber type coke oven has a buckstay 2 to impart furnace-clamping force, and a protective plate 3 between the buckstay 2 and a brick construction 1, in which the buckstay 2 has a buckstay projection 4 and the protective plate 3 has a protective plate projection 5. When the oven is cold during an initial phase after brick construction, the protective plate projection 5 is in contact with a top of the buckstay projection 4 to support the protective plate 3 from upper and lower directions. After the oven bricks are heated, the thermally expanded brick construction 1 supports the protective plate 3 to elevate the plate 3, and subsequently the buckstay 2 receives the protective plate weight via a secondary pad 7 between the buckstay projection 4 and the protective plate projection 5.
