PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aromatic ketone suitable for a production on an industrial scale. SOLUTION: The method for producing an aromatic ketone comprises reacting a carboxylic acid with at least one kind of a phenyl group-containing compound of a phenyl ether derivative and a phenyl sulfide derivative in the presence of an indium compound represented by the general formula: InX<SB>n</SB>(wherein, X is Cl, Br, I or CF<SB>3</SB>SO<SB>2</SB>O; n is 1, 2 or 3) and an alkylhalosilane represented by the general formula: SiH<SB>3-m</SB>R<SP>1</SP><SB>m</SB>X (R<SP>1</SP>is an alkyl group; X is Cl, Br or I; m is 1, 2 or 3).
