摘要 <p>Scintillator composition comprises a lutetium phosphate matrix activated with cerium and praseodymium ions : Independent claims are also included for: (1) radiation detector comprising a photodetector optically coupled to a scintillator crystal with a composition as above; (2) detecting high-energy radiation by picking up radiation with a scintillator crystal as above to generate photons characteristic of the radiation, and detecting the photons with a photon detector coupled to the scintillator crystal; (3) producing a scintillator crystal by melting a mixture of lutetium-, cerium-, praseodymium- and phosphate-containing reactants and crystallizing the melt; (4) determining the conditions under which the energy of a praseodymium ion will excite luminescence in a cerium ion in the presence of a host matrix of a scintillator composition by determining if the praseodymium ion is incorporated in the host matrix in such a way that its ground state is within a forbidden gap of cerium, determining if the praseodymium ion is predominated by a 4f 1>5d 1>to 4f 2>transition, and determining that the emission band of the cerium ion does no overlap with the excited 4f 2>state of the praseodymium ion.</p>
