The method involves determining an adjacent crank shaft angle and positions of individual cylinders (21) of an internal-combustion engine (11), during engine shut down or after single ignition. An angle pace is defined as a function of a desired crankshaft movement. A cylinder that is adapted for execution of the angle pace is determined on the basis of the adjacent crankshaft angle. A suitable cylinder and fuel injection amount are selected, and the suitable cylinder is ignited. An independent claim is also included for a method for automatically parking a motor vehicle with self injecting internal-combustion engine.
