A mobile communication terminal having a 3D avatar generation function and a 3D avatar generation method are provided to generate a 3D avatar which models a substantial figure by using a facial image taken by a camera of the terminal, thereby manufacturing various 3D contents by using the generated 3D avatar. A memory(102) stores a standard 3D facial model for generating a 3D avatar. An image processor(122) combines a front facial image with a side facial image obtained through a camera(118) of a terminal. A 3D model converter(124) generates a 3D avatar model by using the combined front and side facial images and the standard 3D facial model. An animation combiner(126) generates 3D avatar animation data by combining the generated 3D avatar model with additionally inputted text or voice. An animation data generator(128) generates animation data by combining/editing the plural 3D avatar animation data.
