<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of reading a document image with high precision by suppressing variation in quantity of light of LEDs and variation in light quantity spectrum while saving energy by driving a cooling fan to cool the LEDs only when necessary. <P>SOLUTION: The image reader includes a light source constituted by arraying a plurality of LEDs and the cooling fan for cooling the LEDs by blowing air toward the light source and scans a document surface with light emitted by the LEDs toward the document surface to read a document image, wherein the cooling fan is driven and controlled when a current larger than a set value is supplied to the LEDs. When a document feeding read system is employed as a document read system, the cooling fan is driven and controlled. Further, when the illumination time of the LEDs exceeds a set value, the cooling fan is driven and controlled. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
