PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data transmission system capable of communicating even at a low rate in emergency in order to prevent bidirectional communication from being disabled if even one signal line of a plurality of pair signal lines is broken in constitution wherein the bidirectional communication is provided using all of the plurality of pair signal lines, and to provide a communication fault recovering method therefor. SOLUTION: In the data transmission system wherein devices are connected by the plurality of full-duplex twisted pair cable to transmit and receive data to and from each other, each of the devices has a disconnection detector which detects signal breaking of each of the plurality of twisted pair cables, a deciding/instructing unit which forcibly starts recovery after fault occurrence with a rule predetermined corresponding to a signal breaking detection result obtained by the disconnection detector, and twisted pair cable information on use instructed by the deciding/instructing unit.
