PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a railroad vehicle body structure reduced in the weight of a frame member of an opening, and a frame member mounting method. SOLUTION: This railroad vehicle body structure is provided with a side body structure, a roof body structure, an end body structure, and an underframe, and the frame member 10 is mounted in an opening of a door way or a window formed in the side structure or the end body structure. In the frame member 10, a welding protrusion 11 protruded in a direction along the outer surface of the vehicle body in a mounted state is formed, and on the opening side, a protruded section 111 is formed in the direction along the outer surface of the vehicle body. Welding end surfaces of the welding protrusion 11 of the frame member 10 and the protruded section 111 on the opening side are made to butt against each other, and the welding section with the welding end surfaces abutting against each other is welded by friction stir welding while being held by a bobbin tool type rotary tool 1.
