The invention relates to a method for providing fibres and textiles with an antimicrobial active component, wherein at least one silver component which is desensitised by an adjunct such as pinacryptol yellow is applied to the fibres or textile, permitting a long-lasting protection for textiles against bacterial infection and undesired colourings of the textile.
