PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it easy to bring a distant subject into focus even when a near subject is left in a frame after camera operation when an object to be photographed is changed from the near subject to the distant subject through the camera operation. SOLUTION: In an imaging device which performs AF control by calculating an AF evaluated value based upon a video signal of an AF evaluation area (focusing evaluation area) provided in a frame image and then driving and controlling a focusing lens so that the AF evaluate value is maximum, the AF evaluation area is moved in a direction of movement of the imaging device or the size of the AF evaluation area is reduced toward the center of the frame image when the imaging device is subjected to intentional camera operation (panning or tilting operation).
