PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the following problem by retracting a deforming member from a paper money discharge path, the problem being that the deforming member may obstruct paper money from being smoothly discharged when a bundle of paper money is discharged if the deforming member for deforming paper money is arranged at an entrance of a temporary holding part when the bundle of paper money accumulated in temporary holding equipment is collectively discharged through one and the same path after feeding each paper money to the temporary holding part from a circulating paper money storing part. SOLUTION: This paper money holding device is provided with a paper money accumulating mechanism 50 provided with a base member 51, a paper money receiving and discharging mechanism 60 for introducing each paper money onto the base member and accumulating the paper money thereon and collectively discharging a bundle of the accumulated paper money through a paper money introducing path, and an interlocking mechanism 80 for interlocking the paper money accumulating mechanism with the paper money receiving and discharging mechanism, wherein the interlocking mechanism retreats the deforming member from the paper money introducing path to prevent the deforming member from being in contact with the paper money when the base member is located at a non-receiving position, and on the other hand, projects the deforming member into the paper money introducing path to shift the deforming member so as to be in contact with the paper money when the base member is shifted to a receiving position.
