PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chip cutting method for a machine tool and the machine tool capable of preventing troubles such as the twining of chips by cutting the chips finely when they are produced at the time of cutting of workpieces even during an unattended operation for a long time. SOLUTION: The machine tool is provided with chucks 11:12, 21:22 for holding a workpiece W; spindles 10, 20 for rotating the chucks 11:12, 21:22; cutting tool holding means 30a for holding a cutting tool 30 processing the workpiece W; and a chip cutting means for cutting chips S produced during the processing of the workpiece W. The chip cutting means is provided with first cutting means 41a;41b, 42a;42b rotated integrally with the spindles 10, 20 and second cutting means 43a;43b, 44a;44b provided in close proximity to portions through which the first cutting means 41a;41b, 42a;42b pass, and the chips S are cut by the first and second cutting means 41a;41b, 42a;42b, 43a;43b and 44a;44b.
