The invention relates to a method for operating a magnetic field sensor, and to an associated magnetic field sensor. During the operation of a magnetic field sensor consisting of at least one magnetoresistive element, it must be taken into account that said element has a characteristic curve with hysteresis. According to the invention, the hysteresis is influenced by imparting a significantly higher value to the control impulses than to the measuring field such that the hysteresis is essentially constant and, in this respect, can be taken into account during the evaluation. The associated magnetic field sensor is provided with a current loop for imparting a value to the measuring impulse.
