The noncombustible wick (1) has a wick holder (3) for retaining the wick. The wick is made of a metal core (7) and a surrounding bundle made of quartz glass fibers stick together with organic adhesive. A fluid candle fuel (2) is supplied to the wick. The organic adhesive comprises a mixture of starch, protein and water, where paraffin powder is added to the adhesive. The metal core consists of copper, and the glass fibers are texturized. The portion of the protein and the starch of the mixture range between 10 percent and 40 percent. An independent claim is also included for a method for production of a noncombustible wick.
