LIQUID CRYSTAL PANEL AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPLAY DEVICE

It is an object to provide a liquid crystal panel and a liquid crystal display device that contribute miniaturization, realize a high contrast with improvement in a viewing angle characteristic, suppress a color shift and can well prevent light leakage at a black display. The liquid crystal panel is comprised of a liquid crystal cell, first through fourth optical compensation layers and first and second polarizers. The first optical compensation layer disposed on one side of the liquid crystal cell has the following relationships: Nz = 1-2.5 and Re<SUB>1</SUB> (380) < RE<SUB>1</SUB> (550) < RE<SUB>1</SUB> (780) and the second optical compensation layer has the following relationships: nx = ny > nz and Re<SUB>2</SUB>(380) > Re<SUB>2</SUB> (550) > Re<SUB>2</SUB> (780). The third optical compensation layer disposed on the other side of the liquid crystal cell has the following relationships: Nz = 1-2.5 and Re<SUB>3</SUB> (380) < RE<SUB>3</SUB> (550) < RE<SUB>3</SUB> (780) and the first optical compensation layer has the following relationships: nx = ny > nz and Re<SUB>4</SUB> (380) > Re<SUB>4</SUB> (550) > Re<SUB>4</SUB> (780). The first and second optical compensation layers and the third and fourth optical compensation layers are symmetrical in position with respect to the liquid crystal cell.
