MEMORY ARBITRATION

A memory arbitrator comprises plural ports, each for receiving commands from a respective master, and connectable to plural banks of memory via a memory interface, wherein the memory arbitrator is operable to arbitrate memory access requests received at the plural ports based at least in part on a comparison of an operation currently being perfomed and an operation requested in a received access request. Arbitration is performed also on the basis of a comparison of a row of memory in which an operation is currently being perfomed and a row of memory associated with a received access request. When moving to a different row, priority is given to access requests relating to different banks of memory.
