<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fluorescent substance excellent in luminescence property at high temperatures when compared with conventional YAG fluorescent substances. <P>SOLUTION: The fluorescent substance is represented by formula [1]: Ln<SB>x</SB>(Ca<SB>(1-y-z)</SB>Sr<SB>y</SB>M<SP>II</SP><SB>z</SB>)<SB>(1-x-w)</SB>M<SP>III</SP><SB>a</SB>M<SP>IV</SP><SB>b</SB>N<SB>(c×(1-d))</SB>O<SB>(c×d)</SB>.
