PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive zoom lens which is easily configured to bend an optical path by a reflecting optical member, and has a wide angle, high optical performance having variable power ratio of about 5, and an extremely thin depth. SOLUTION: The zoom lens comprises a first positive lens group G1, a second negative lens group G2, a third positive lens group G3, a fourth positive lens group G4, a fifth negative lens group G5, and a sixth positive lens group G6. When the power is varied from a wide-angle end to a telephoto end, the first lens group G1 is nearly fixed about an image plane I and at least the second lens group G2 and fourth lens group G4 move, and the first lens group G1 includes a negative lens, the reflecting optical element P for bending the optical path, and a positive lens, in order from the object side, and satisfies a conditional expression (1): 1.0<¾f<SB>1L1</SB>¾/f<SB>w</SB><2.5 (where f<SB>1L1</SB>is the focal length of the negative lens of the first lens group and f<SB>w</SB>is the focal length at the wide-angle end).
