The present invention is related to treatment of cardiac tissue of a heart (16) of a patient with therapeutic light using an implantable medical device (10; 20; 30) connectable to at least one medical lead (12, 14; 22a, 22b; 40; 70; 80; 90; 100; 106) comprising electrodes (42, 44; 72; 82; 92; 102; 108) and at least one fixation means (42; 71; 81; 91; 101; 107) adapted to fixate said lead (12, 14; 22a, 22b; 40; 70; 80; 90; 100; 106) at a fixation area of the cardiac tissue. Therapeutic light is emitted towards said at least one fixation area of cardiac tissue and/or towards a contact area between the at least one electrode (42, 44; 72; 82; 92; 102; 108) and cardiac tissue using light emitting means (31, 32; 46; 74; 84; 94; 104; 109a, 109b).
