<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an elliptical polarizing plate that is superior in viewing angle characteristics, and to provide a vertically aligned liquid crystal display apparatus that uses the same. <P>SOLUTION: The elliptical polarizing plate is constituted by laminating at least a first polarizing plate, a first optically anisotropic layer, a second optically anisotropic layer and a third optically anisotropic layer, in this order. The first optically anisotropic layer satisfies Expression [1], the second optically anisotropic layer satisfies Expressions [2],[3] and the third optically anisotropic layer satisfies Expressions [4] to [6]. The expressions are [1] 50≤Re1≤500, [2] 0≤Re2≤20, [3] -500≤Rth2≤-30, [4] 100≤Re3≤180, [5] 50≤Rth3≤600, [6] 0.5≤Rth3/Re3≤3.5, where Re denotes the in-plane retardation value of each optically anisotropic layer and Rth denotes the retardation value in the thickness direction of each optically anisotropic layer. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
