PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To adjust the lightness of the display screen of a display device adaptively to lightness that a human feels by putting external-light detection characteristics of an optical sensor closer to human's visual sensation. SOLUTION: A display device includes: a display unit 12 which displays an image; a plurality of optical sensors 21 which are formed on a substrate 11 where the display unit 12 is formed and photodetect light beams of wavelength bands different from that of visible light respectively; and a control unit 35 which weights respective output signals Rout, Gout, and Bout of the optical sensors 21 having photodetected the light beams of the different wavelength bands adaptively to human's sensitivity characteristics and adjusts the lightness of the display unit 12 based upon control signals Y, Rsig', Gsig', and Big' obtained by adding the weighted output values.
