PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molded article of an expanded particle that is difficult to generate a creaking sound even when used as an insulating material for the back surface of an air-conditioner, an automotive interior material, a floor underlayment material or a shock absorbing material and does not decrease its productivity during the molding process, to provide a surface-modified expandable polystyrenic resin particles that can easily give the molded article of the expanded particle and to provide a process for producing the surface-modified expandable polystyrene resin particles. SOLUTION: The process for producing a surface-modified expandable polystyrene resin particles comprises wetting with water the surface of an expandable polystyrene resin particles produced by impregnating the same with a blowing agent and then adding 0.4-3.5 pts.wt. plaster particle based on 100 pts.wt. expandable polystyrene resin particles and stirring to coat the surface of the expandable polystyrene resin particles with plaster.
