PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new diamine having a fluorene skeleton and not containing a halogen and producing a polyamide and a polyimide excellent in mechanical strength, heat resistance, optical properties, processability, etc., and to provide a method for producing the new diamine. SOLUTION: The present invention provides a 9,9-bis(3-aminopropyl)-2,7-dialkoxyfluorene compound represented by formula (1) (wherein R is a 1-4C alkyl group). The present invention further provides a method for producing the 9,9-bis(3-aminopropyl)-2,7-dialkoxyfluorene. The method comprises reacting 2,7-dialkoxyfluorene with acrylonitrile to provide a 9,9-bis(2-cyanoethyl)-2,7-dialkoxyfluorene and reducing the compound to obtain 9,9-bis(3-aminopropyl)-2,7-dialkoxyfluorene.
