A mobile terminal and a method for displaying the other party in the mobile terminal are provided to enable a user to confirm the other party's emotional state through a phone book even when a messenger is not connected, thus the user can confirm all of the other party's emotional states as minimizing data charges. A wireless communication unit(110) performs data communication with a messenger server. A memory(120) stores a telephone number. A controller(140) extracts state information on the other party based on data received from the messenger server through the wireless communication unit, and matches the extracted state information with the telephone number to store the matched information in the memory. An input unit(130) inputs a connection command for the messenger server.
