A recording method for a portable multimedia player is provided to perform timer recording through connection with an external device, thereby preventing the timer recording from being stopped by an error. A recording method for a portable multimedia player comprises the following steps of: storing timer recording information set by a user in the memory of the portable multimedia player(S210); determining whether it is a recording time on the basis of the timer recording information stored in the memory(S212); searching error condition information when it is the recording time; determining whether the timer recording is possible on the basis of the error condition information(S214); searching for an external device synchronized with the portable multimedia player when the timer recording is not possible(S218); providing the timer recording information to the external device when the external device is searched(S224); and receiving, encoding, and recording DMB(Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) broadcasting in the external device receiving the timer recording information.
